Last game for the evening

I couldn't sleep and I blame it on the two Red Bull beverages that I drank to help me with my late-night work.

wenzi (22k?) from Singapore was online so we played a 13x13 game that turned into a cliffhanger for me. I felt as though I should have resigned about three-quarters of the way through; but I played to the end and won by 8.5 moku.

My focus was so poor and I almost didn't notice that a large cluster of his stones were vulnerable.

Black to wake-up and smell the coffee. PLAY N7!

Perhaps it's also time for me to get used to counting territory while in the game.

wenzi reads his opportunities well and had sente for most of this game. As you can see from the topmost image, I lost 10 stones in his territory. Those are the remains of what should have been a base in the lower-left corner. He choked my positions and eroded my walls.

I probably won't be much online for the next two days. I need some rest from both work and Go. Midnight of Friday is also when the next Harry Potter book releases so ChiyoChan, my daughter, and I will be at our local bookstore's release party.

Many thanks for the kind words hgf90! Are they having any Potter parties in Finland as well?

I'm sorry that we were unable to finish our game due to my PC problems. Let's have a rematch on another day.

Um, what was the full board position at the point where you say "PLAY N7!"? Because as far as I can see, the white group is already dead. N7 is a false eye.

I think you can trust me, I'm on KGS under the handle "e952x" as a 17k. So unless the existance of the group was really threatening anything, you could have played somewhere else with no worry.

Meh, I forgot, and I'm posting as anonymous... so... I have to double post. I'm on SL as ChaoSpectre as well. I'd like to try to help you, if you would have me do so.

Hello ChaoSpectre,

Yes, it was a false eye. I'll need to go back to the kifu but I think that wenzi had a brief turnaround opportunity. Either that or I was just being overanxious.

Maybe we can play and review a game on KGS one of these days? Are you in Japan?

Actually I don't quite understand what you mean by potter parties... Something related to the release of the book? Is it just a party? But i guess there isn't that sorta thing in Finland. The book just gets released and people go buy it :P. Yes, I would also like a rematch with you :). Are you often in kgs?

Hello hgf90. Potter parties are just the bookstore-sponsored festivities correlated with the launch of the book. Our bookstore had on such; staging shows, offering games and prizes, and staying upen until past-midnight so readers could buy the book as soon as the 16th of July began. Kids (and even adults) will sometimes dress-up in costume for the event.

I'm currently playing 90% IGS, 5% KGS, and 5% WWG/DB but I sometimes lurk on all three simultaneously.

ahh, I see. There's no such thing here in Finland altough it sounds nice =). I'm about 20% in kgs 20% in a finnish go server and the rest is igs. I'll check sometimes if you're in igs or in kgs =).
